Regulatory body within the medical profession requires an experienced Policy Manager to take the lead in developing policies for the implementation of the revalidation model for medical practitioners. You will work to help develop and implement the proposals on revalidation set out in the Government White Paper on the regulation of health professionals (Trust, Assurance and Safety – The Regulation of Health Professionals in the 21st Century).

 

 Main responsibilities

 

To form a key part of the revalidation team managing the workstream agenda, which will include developing and writing new policy for the revalidation workstreams to agreed timescales and budgets.

To contribute to discussions about, and provide advice in relation to, the implementation of revalidation.

To develop contacts, and to co-operate, with other organisations to take forward the organisation’s policies.

To produce papers for Council members in line with key delivery time lines, reporting progress and seeking approval for project and pilot work.

To be able to work within the governance structure presenting papers to Working Groups and Boards.

To present the work to external audiences working with a range of key organisations. You will be responsible for helping to develop these relationships by identifying opportunities for sharing best practice and co-ordinating with other organisations to help deliver the revalidation policy agenda.

Your initial primary objective will be to support the consultation process in relation to revalidation, drawing together the various workstreams to tight deadlines and exacting specification and arranging external events to support the consultation.

 

Key Skills:

 

An ability to understand revalidation and the impact that this will have on the regulation of doctors in the UK.

An ability to produce policy in a range of areas for the purposes of operational implementation.  Ideally this experience will have been in a complex programme of work. 

The intellectual and analytical skills to understand the complex issues around revalidation, coupled with the ability to identify risks and think strategically and to generate creative and practical solutions.

An understanding of the legislative framework and the political environment.

Experience of managing consultations including preparing for consultation, selecting a launch method, selecting support events and collating responses. 

Excellent written communication skills are essential. The post holder must be able to set out arguments on complex issues clearly and succinctly for a range of internal and external audiences, and must be able to draft documents accurately and quickly.

The post holder must have the confidence to give presentations to a wide range of audiences, and to explain and justify approaches to projects and pilots in a fluent and persuasive manner.

The ability to develop effective, supportive and collaborative relationships across all areas of a multifaceted organisation.

The ability to develop and manage existing and new external relationships with key stakeholders, including across the devolved administrations, the medical education community, the NHS, and the independent health sector. 

A clear ability to contribute to the quality assurance of systems, policy and procedures, providing improvements where necessary.

A proven ability to provide creative solutions to operational problems.

An ability to adapt to change, working in an environment of growth and innovation.
