Regulatory body within the medical profession seeks a highly experienced delivery expert to take the lead in managing a number of key initiatives to support the development and implementation of revalidation for doctors. You will work with colleagues at the organisation and with other stakeholders across the four countries of the UK, in finessing the model for revalidation as well as planning and delivering the changes that are necessary to support the new process. You will also take responsibility for the business planning and budgeting process for the Directorate as a whole.
Responsibilities:
To work closely with the Assistant Director and Director to set the strategic direction for the development and implementation of revalidation
To provide high level support and work with the members of the UK wide Revalidation Programme Board
To take responsibility for organising and supporting meetings of the Revalidation Programme Board and to work and liaise closely with the independent Chair.
To draft and present papers on revalidation to Council and the Revalidation Programme Board.
To manage through the team the business planning process for the Directorate as a whole, preparing annual budgets and help to control expenditure.
To have overall responsibility for the programme management of the section, delivering project plans for the implementation of revalidation with regular review of the work programme.
To work with a diverse range of stakeholders on pilots and other projects to support the implementation of revalidation
To take a lead on the implementation of revalidation in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, attending meetings of local revalidation delivery groups as required and other relevant meetings in the devolved administrations as appropriate.
To liaise with Government departments, devolved administrations, statutory bodies, professional organisations and the members of the public on matters relating to the revalidation programme of work.
Key Skills
The post holder will possess an in-depth understanding of the challenges of working within a complex regulatory framework – as well as the ability to operate in an intellectually challenging environment.
The role requires a highly analytical approach with the ability to develop practical and effective policy solutions. Political awareness, exceptional interpersonal skills and influencing skills will be central to achieving success. The post holder will also be responsible for co-ordinating high level programme boards and working groups
The post holder must be able to demonstrate an ability to design, manage implement change in a complex political environment.
The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating high level working groups and committees. Experience of working with committees or high level boards is desirable.
The post holder will be involved in drafting and delivering documents for policy and developmental work. The ability to draft high calibre committee documents, reports and papers is essential. A requirement of the job will be to explain and summarise regulatory issues. The ability to make presentations and to influence and persuade others is important and will take place across the organisation.
In addition, the post holder will have regular contacts with a range of stakeholders including UK Health Departments and their various government agencies, other regulatory bodies, doctors, Council members, patient representative groups, medical Royal Colleges, employers and members of the public. Exceptional interpersonal skills will be required.
The role will have an element of external representation and the post holder must bring to the role a high level of personal credibility to enable them to engage appropriately with a range of interest groups. The post holder must be able to operate with tact, sensitivity, and an awareness of the wider health sector environment.
Clarifying and resolving complex issues, and recommending a course of action, are important requirements of the post. The post holder must be able to identify potentially contentious issues, and to anticipate problems in developing and implementing revised procedures across the Directorate.
Excellent time, resource and project management skills are essential. The post holder will be required to achieve a high level of output personally and through the team to meet the challenging work agenda.
Filling a key leadership role within the Directorate requires highly developed people management skills, and the ability to visibly and professionally lead the small team within the Directorate.
The post holder will have a track record of leading the development of high performing teams and key employees. The post holder will have the ability to contribute to the wider development of the Directorate’s staff, working relationships and systems and will have the ability to share and nurture the highest of professional standards through visible and credible management skills. The post holder will have the ability to mentor and develop staff.
