Regulatory body in the medical sector seeks a Policy Officer to work to develop policies and implementation strategies to support the introduction and ongoing evolution of revalidation for doctors.
Responsibilities:
Undertaking research and analysis and identifying issues, contributing to thinking and discussions,writing papers for internal and external audiences and supporting delivery to enable the implementation of policy decisions.
The post-holder will consider and advise on the governance and resource implications of the Directorate’s work programme (including communication and equality and diversity issues); the arrangements for the analysis and publication of results; and for the identification and sharing of best practice amongst Responsible Officers and healthcare organisations.
The post-holder will develop a detailed understanding of the wider healthcare framework and use this expertise to assist in the development and implementation of policy and procedures.
The post holder will be expected to develop contacts, and to co-operate, with other organisations to take forward the organisations’ policies.
The post holder will be expected to share a number of responsibilities with other colleagues, including assisting in the production of policy papers for consideration at Director, Board and Council level and producing reports on activities for the team and presenting information as required.
Key skills
Ability to understand the organisation’s approach to regulatory development and the impact that this will have on the regulation of doctors in the UK.
Understanding of research methodologies and analytical techniques.
Previous experience (or relevant transferable skills) of working in a policy area where development and new initiatives have been a key driver.
Experience of being able to research and assimilate information through a variety of methods, presenting a concise report to a variety of audiences.
Excellent knowledge of MS Word and Excel together with an understanding of inputting and retrieving information from databases.
Ability to assess and quantify the resource implications of different policy approaches and options.
Experience of writing clearly and succinctly with possible evidence of contributing to policy and committee paper delivery.
Proven ability to analyse and present complex arguments in a readable and understandable form for audiences ranging from specialists to the general public.
Able to communicate and work with a diverse group of colleagues, being comfortable operating at all levels of the organisation.
Experience of developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Able to monitor the progress of work both in terms of own personal tasks and those of the section against agreed business objectives.
Able to contribute to the quality assurance of systems, policy and procedures, providing improvements where necessary.
Able to provide creative solutions to operational problems.
