Regulatory body within the medical profession requires a Policy and Planning Officer for a 12 month fixed term contract. The successful candidate will be required to provide administrative and policy support to the Policy and Planning Team in relation to the maintenance and development of fitness to practise policy and to provide support to working groups on fitness to practise issues.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Developing a basic working knowledge of fitness to practise policy and the work of the directorate and to assist the Policy and Planning Managers and the Assistant Director in the provision of advice and support to the Senior Management Team in respect of policy development and operational monitoring.

Contributing to the development of new policy through the provision of background information and statistical data under supervision, as required.

Assisting with the preparation of policy papers and the drafting of other related documentation.

Assisting with a range of policy and planning projects including preparing project plans, monitoring progress and providing updates to the Senior Management Team and internal governance groups as required.

Liaising with a variety of internal colleagues and external bodies in relation to policy issues.

Preparing meeting schedules and making all practical arrangements in respect of the meetings including the booking of venues, catering and IT support and the preparation of draft agendas, minutes and other supporting documentation.

Maintaining computerised records in respect of the team’s policy and business planning issues.

 

Key skills:

 

Experience of providing administrative support for working groups and/or committees would be an advantage, including the preparation of agendas, minutes and other supporting documentation. 

The ability to arrange meeting schedules including the booking of meeting venues, catering and IT support is essential.

Some experience of supporting a policy team of function would be ideal.

Excellent IT skills are required as the post holder will work via the organisation’s Siebel-based information management system and will need to work to a high standard with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

The ability to draft accurate and concise documents using Plain English and in accordance with in-house style guidance is important as is the ability to work collaboratively with others in the joint development of written materials.

Ability to communicate clearly and courteously is important, therefore excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly establish credibility are essential to enable effective interaction with colleagues at all levels.

The successful candidate will be well-organised, with good time management skills and the ability to prioritise their workload appropriately.

An ability to quickly identify and resolve issues in a timely and effective manner, with the needs of the team’s key stakeholders in mind is very important.

The Policy Officer must be able to work within organisational procedures and with the achievement of team objectives, deadlines and timetables constantly in mind.
